Pesto Pastry Trees
I’ve recently really got into using pre-made dough like puff pastry and the pillsbury crescent dough (all very new to me??) because they just make apps like this one so easy to pull together. It’s always nice to have something cute and festive, that I can just make and forget about while I’m prepping everything else, and no one has every complained about having too many snacky things at a party! This one comes together with just 3 core ingredients: puff pastry, pesto, and egg wash
I used:
- 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 3-4 tbsp pesto
- 1 egg, beaten
- 6-inch length skewers
- cheddar cheese stars
To make:
- roll out thawed puff pastry as much as you can
- pull puff pastry dough off the attached parchment paper (this makes it easier to get the strips off later), and spread pesto across the sheet
- cut into 1-inch strips and then fold them into trees by layering and folding the pastry strip in a zig-zag pattern
- insert a skewer and brush with egg wash
- bake at 400F for 15 minutes until golden brown
- top with cheddar cheese star topper!
- if you’re serving these at a party, I would bring the cheese toppers in a separate container, and ask the host if I could pop them in the oven for 4 minutes at 400F
