za’atar feta oatmeal (15 minute breakfast recipe)
I recently acquired a bag of za’atar and have been thinking about making za’atar feta oatmeal for the last week. I finally had the chance to test it out and it’s a winner!!
Za’atar is a Middle Eastern spice blend made of dried herbs like oregano, thyme, marjoram, and spices like sumac. It’s a little tangy, has a slightly undertone, and I feel like goes well with the nutty sweetness that oatmeal has! Feta for a little umami, cucumbers for texture + something refreshing, a fried egg — chef’s kiss!!
i used:
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 2 cups water
- 2-3 tsp za’atar
- 2 tbsp feta
- salt
- 2 eggs
- toppings: persian cucumber, za’atar, feta
to make za’atar feta oatmeal:
- add oats to a pot and heat up over medium heat, lightly toast your oats until they smell warm and almost sweet ~3-5 minutes
- pour in water and bring to a boil, let simmer on low heat for ~8-10 mninutes, stirring it every couple of minutes. to prevent the content from boiling over, leave the pot lid slightly ajar
- mix in za’atar and feta, season with salt to taste
- top with fried egg, cucumbers, and additional za’atar and feta
