48 Hours in Malmö

I originally planned on staying in Copenhagen for four nights, but when I went to book my hostel, there was only one hostel with availability for the last two nights at a rate of $100/night (ridiculous). This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I wound up spending my last two nights in Malmö in Sweden, a 30 minute train ride away from Copenhagen. Two years ago, I visited Stockholm and fell in love with the city and this second trip to Sweden just made me fall more in love with the country. Everything here is just so beautiful – the buildings, the decor, the landscape, the people. If you’re heading to Copenhagen, I would highly recommend spending a few days in Malmö, especially during the summer.

Eat

Atrium Kaffebar: If I lived in Malmo, I would definitely end up here every day. Super cute cafe with plenty of outdoor seating in a patio and garden area. Brownie points for wifi.

Lilla Kafferostereit: This cafe looks so small and quaint from the outside but it actually has three floors! Their patio and their sidewalk seating are both great spots for people watching. Get the kanelsnurrer, I’m usually not a big fan of cinnamon buns but this was incredible.

Falafel: There’s plenty of good falafel shops, I went to Möllans Falafel, which was super yummy and only 40 SEK!

Malmo Saluhall: Saluhall is a food hall with tons of options for food and cute outdoor seating. It’s the place to go if you’re looking to have a few different options! I got a fettuccine pasta dish from one of the stalls but pizza seemed to be the most popular. There’s also a gelato shop that offers different unique flavors on a daily basis. Great place to grab a beer or glass of wine and chill.

Things I didn’t get to do: Mitt Mollan food court, Noir for coffees, pastries, open face sandwiches

See/Do

Turning Torso: The Turning Torso is the tallest building in Scandinavia and is regarded as the first twisted skyscraper in the world. Look at this and then go to Vastra Hamnen.

Walk along Vastra Hamnen, get gelato, and enjoy the sun: I didn’t mean to walk along Vastra Hamnen but found my way there after walking to the Turning Torso (cool to see but that’s really it). It was such a gorgeous day and seemed like all of Malmö was out on Vastra Hamnen enjoying the weather. There were plenty of people tanning, getting in the water, and salsa dancing.

Ribesborg Beach: From Vastra Hamnen I walked to Ribesborg Beach – Sweden is just such a beautiful country. I’m obsessed.

Malmö Museer & Malmö Konstmuseum: Walk through Kungsparken after breakfast at Lilla and check out the museum for an hour or two. It’s located inside the Malmö Castle.

Go Shopping: There’s no shortage of vintage shops and clothing stores in Malmö. Unfortunately most stores were closed on Sunday, so I didn’t have a chance to check them out.

Lilla Torg: I didn’t spend much time in Lilla Torg but it’s the central square with plenty of restaurants to sit at and people watch.

Getting Around

Getting around Malmö is very convenient via public transportation. You can pay on the bus via cash or card or pre-purchase tickets on the Stadsbiljetten app.
